COMSTECH in collaboration with Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Islamabad, launched “COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Program” in June 2022 for the capacity building of Yemeni scientists. H. E. Mohammed Motahar Alashabi, the Ambassador of Yemen had a series of meetings with Coordinator General COMSTECH to start this program.
In the first phase COMSTECH offered 50 fellowships for Yemeni nationals. These fellowships were offered by International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) (University of Karachi), The University of Lahore, Lahore, and Health Services Academy (HSA), Islamabad – member institutions of COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE).
In the first phase, 17 scholars have successfully completed their fellowships in the respective institutions, and returned back to Yemen to serve the nation.
Out of these 17 fellowships, 11 were done at the University of Lahore and 3 fellowships were done at ICCBS and HSA each.
In the second phase COMSTECH has offered 80 more fellowships and two on-site training events in Yemen in the fields of health, agriculture and climate with the support of the University of Lahore, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Health Services Academy, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, National Agricultural Research Center, University of Management and Technology, University of Sargodha and Superior University.

COMSTECH, The Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC, is committed to promoting higher education, research and capacity building of OIC member states. It has started several programs focusing on building capacity of member states in areas of science, Technology, and Health particularly.
COMSTECH and The University of Lahore has launched a special collaborative program offering exclusive scholarships in Associate Degree Program (ADP) in Biomedical Engineering Technology, and Embedded Systems (2.5 years with pathway to BS) for Africa. 25 Scholarships in each program are available. These scholarships are offered to candidates from OIC Member States in Africa and Muslim Minorities in other countries in Africa.

Background:
Conflicts around the world have led to the displacement of millions of people, resulting in a significant impact on research and higher education for those affected. Armed conflicts, civil wars, political instability, and persecution force people to flee their homes and seek refuge in other countries or within their own borders. Many refugees were involved in research or higher education in their home countries prior to displacement. The conflict disrupts their research projects, academic careers, and scientific contributions.
This program aims to support displaced and refugee scientists to stay up-to-date in their field, maintain meaningful careers, and be in a position to help rebuild their countries, once conditions allow. Until then, these professionals can be valuable assets for the countries in which they arrive.
Furthermore, this program aims to provide displaced and refugee scholars and scientists who have not yet found a safe and long-term host country an opportunity to pursue their studies/research/degrees, at the prestigious University of Sargodha, Pakistan

To provide an additional opportunity for talented researchers from Islamic countries to apply for the available fellowships in Young Scientists’ Fellowship Program (YSFP), Mustafa(pbuh) Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF), COMSTECH, and National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) are pleased to announce an extension of the application deadline for the active program till January 31, 2025.
YSFP provides short-term fellowships to young scholars, technologists, and faculty members under 40 years of age. Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree. The duration of fellowships in this program is 6–12 months, which can be more or less depending on the conditions and requirements, with the agreement of the host.
The current program awards five fellowships to young scholars specializing in biotechnology, health, and ICT.
Return flight tickets, accommodation, and research expenses will be covered by the organizers.

COMSTECH, the Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, has announced an exciting opportunity for the Staff of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in the Gambia, in collaboration with The University of Lahore (UOL). COMSTECH is offering 15 fully funded scholarships in a variety of fields of study, including Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, Management Sciences, Statistics, Medical Imaging Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Systems. These scholarships are available for students at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. levels.
All selected students will have the opportunity to study at UOL, and the primary goal of these scholarships is to support and uplift the education and health sectors in the Gambia. Muslim minorities living in Non OIC states comprise of 500 million Muslims which constitute one third of the total Muslim population. With such large population spread all over the world, the complexity of social and economic problems of these Muslims have gained immense importance for the OIC. COMSTECH plans to extend assistance for the Muslim minorities in the non OIC Member States, and address the difficulties that stand in the way of their academic development and progress. A major focus of COMSTECH has been on Higher Education and human resource development of fellow Muslims. Therefore, through this initiative, COMSTECH wishes to promote economic, technological and social change, and build capacity of the Muslim minorities.
COMSTECH and prestigious CCoE member Institutions in Pakistan, Malaysia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Iran, Indonesia and Uganda etc. will jointly offer research fellowships to young researcher in Muslim minorities in Non-OIC countries, to enable them to spend 6-12 months at a relevant center of excellence in many listed institutions of OIC member states. The purpose of these fellowships is to enhance the research and development capacity of promising researchers and engineers from Muslim minorities in the Non-OIC member states who are at the beginning of their research career, to help them to foster linkages for further collaboration in their fields.
