Introduction to OIC-COMSTECH:
OIC-COMSTECH, the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation), was established by the Third Islamic Summit of OIC held at Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in January 1981. The President of Pakistan is the Chairman of OIC-COMSTECH. The core mandate of OIC-COMSTECH is to strengthen cooperation among OIC Member States in science and technology (S&T) and enhance their capabilities through training in emerging areas, undertake follow-up-actions and implementation of the resolutions of the OIC, and to draw up programs and submit proposals designed to increase the capability of the Muslim countries in science and technology (S&T). The ultimate aim is to build and nourish a scientific culture in addition to using S&T as a major contributor to socio-economic development and rapid industrialization.
Introduction of University of Technology Sarawak (UTS):
The University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) is a full-fledged university located in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia. It was established in 2012 as the University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and was upgraded to a university in 2021. UTS is wholly owned by the State Government of Sarawak through Yayasan Sarawak (Sarawak Foundation). UTS is committed to providing students with affordable world-class university education that nurtures creative and entrepreneurial leaders through a broad education in science and technology. UTS offers 34 programs under six schools, with an emphasis on developing programs in collaboration with industries, local communities, government policy institutions and local and international
organizations. It has produced over 2,600 graduates with an average employability rate of 99.1%, making it one of the highest employability rates in Malaysia. UTS also has six research centers contributing solutions to local challenges by employing science, technology and digital innovation towards achieving social, economic and environmental sustainability’s. In the last Ten years, UTS has expanded its teaching roots to become a comprehensive research-intensive university.

أطلقت الكومستيك بالتعاون مع سفارة الجمهورية اليمنية في إسلام أباد “برنامج COMSTECH-CCoE اليمن” في يونيو ٢٠٢٢ لبناء قدرات العلماء اليمنيين. حيث عقد سعادة محمد مطهر العشبي سفير اليمن بباكستان سلسلة من الإجتماعات مع المنسق العام للكومستيك لبدء هذا البرنامج.
في المرحلة الأولى ، قدمت الكومستيك ٥٠ منحة دراسية للمواطنين اليمنيين. تم تقديم هذه المنح من قبل المركز الدولي للعلوم الكيميائية والبيولوجية (ICCBS) (جامعة كراتشي) ، جامعة لاهور (لاهور) ، أكاديمية الخدمات الصحية (HSA) (إسلام أباد) – المؤسسات الأعضاء في إتحاد التميز للكومستيك (CCoE).
في المرحلة الأولى ، أكمل ١٧ باحثا بنجاح زمالاتهم في المؤسسات المعنية ، وعادوا إلى اليمن لخدمة الوطن.
ومن بين هذه الزمالات السبعة عشر ، تم إجراء أحد عشر زمالة في جامعة لاهور وعدد ثلاثة زمالات لكل من المركز الدولي للعلوم الكيميائية والبيولوجية (ICCBS) (جامعة كراتشي) و أكاديمية الخدمات الصحية (HSA) . و في المرحلة الثانية ، قدمت الكومستيك ١٨ منحة دراسية أخرى وحدثين تدريبيين ميدانيين في اليمن في مجالات الصحة والزراعة والمناخ بدعم كلا من جامعة لاهور ، المركز الدولي للعلوم الكيميائية والبيولوجية (ICCBS) ، أكاديمية الخدمات الصحية ، جامعة السند الزراعية تاندوجام ، المركز الوطني للبحوث الزراعية ، جامعة الإدارة والتكنولوجيا ، جامعة سارقودا والجامعة العليا.

OIC – COMSTECH & The University of Lahore
COMSTECH, The Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC, is committed to promoting higher education, research and capacity building of OIC member states. It has started several programs focusing on building capacity of member states in areas of science, Technology, and Health particularly.
COMSTECH and The University of Lahore has launched a special collaborative program offering exclusive scholarships in Associate Degree Program (ADP) in Biomedical Engineering Technology, and Embedded Systems (2.5 years with pathway to BS) for Africa. 25 Scholarships in each program are available. These scholarships are offered to candidates from OIC Member States in Africa and Muslim Minorities in other countries in Africa.

Background:
Conflicts around the world have led to the displacement of millions of people, resulting in a significant impact on research and higher education for those affected. Armed conflicts, civil wars, political instability, and persecution force people to flee their homes and seek refuge in other countries or within their own borders. Many refugees were involved in research or higher education in their home countries prior to displacement. The conflict disrupts their research projects, academic careers, and scientific contributions.
This program aims to support displaced and refugee scientists to stay up-to-date in their field, maintain meaningful careers, and be in a position to help rebuild their countries, once conditions allow. Until then, these professionals can be valuable assets for the countries in which they arrive.
Furthermore, this program aims to provide displaced and refugee scholars and scientists who have not yet found a safe and long-term host country an opportunity to pursue their studies/research/degrees, at the prestigious University of Sargodha, Pakistan

To provide an additional opportunity for talented researchers from Islamic countries to apply for the available fellowships in Young Scientists’ Fellowship Program (YSFP), Mustafa(pbuh) Science and Technology Foundation (MSTF), COMSTECH, and National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) are pleased to announce an extension of the application deadline for the active program till January 31, 2025.
YSFP provides short-term fellowships to young scholars, technologists, and faculty members under 40 years of age. Applicants must hold at least a master’s degree. The duration of fellowships in this program is 6–12 months, which can be more or less depending on the conditions and requirements, with the agreement of the host.
The current program awards five fellowships to young scholars specializing in biotechnology, health, and ICT.
Return flight tickets, accommodation, and research expenses will be covered by the organizers.
