COMSTECH in collaboration with Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Islamabad, launched “COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Program” in June 2022 for the capacity building of Yemeni scientists. H. E. Mohammed Motahar Alashabi, the Ambassador of Yemen had a series of meetings with Coordinator General COMSTECH to start this program.
In the first phase COMSTECH offered 50 fellowships for Yemeni nationals. These fellowships were offered by International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) (University of Karachi), The University of Lahore, Lahore, and Health Services Academy (HSA), Islamabad – member institutions of COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE).
In the first phase, 17 scholars have successfully completed their fellowships in the respective institutions, and returned back to Yemen to serve the nation.
Out of these 17 fellowships, 11 were done at the University of Lahore and 3 fellowships were done at ICCBS and HSA each.
In the second phase COMSTECH has offered 80 more fellowships and two on-site training events in Yemen in the fields of health, agriculture and climate with the support of the University of Lahore, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Health Services Academy, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, National Agricultural Research Center, University of Management and Technology, University of Sargodha and Superior University.
For good science, a systematic and focused program for capacity building of young scientists and engineers is needed. COMSTECH, in collaboration of key centers of excellence in OIC countries, announces the research fellowships for young researchers, scientists, and engineers (enrolled in PhD, Masters programs or involved in active research)in various fields. This is indeed an attempt to prepare next generation of scientists and engineers in OIC region to meet the challenges of future.
COMSTECH and prestigious CCoE member Institutions jointly offer these research fellowships to young researcher in OIC countries to enable them to spend 6-12 months at a relevant center of excellence in many listed institutions of OIC member states. The purpose of these fellowships is to enhance the research and development capacity of promising researchers and engineers, especially those at the beginning of their research career, helping them to foster linkages for further collaboration in their fields.

Application submission mode: Applications can only be submitted through email to COMSTECH Headquarters, Islamabad, Pakistan (khazima@comstech.org or comstech@comstech.org ) and would be jointly reviewed by an expert committee of the COMSTECH and Host institutions.
Eligibility
The scholarships are for research and advanced training. They are offered to young scientists holding at least an M.S or equivalent degree for graduate studies, and Ph.D. for post-graduate studies or involved in active research.
Eligible applicants for the research fellowships are young scientists and Engineers who are citizens of an OIC country, or are employed by a research institution in an OIC country.
There is age limit for these research fellowships. However, preference is given to young scientists (Particularly women scientists) at the beginning of their research career, and those working in Least Developed OIC Countries (LDC), or are from Muslim minority in Non- OIC states.
Research fellowships are awarded by COMSTECH, along with Host Institutions Joint scholarship Committee, based on scientific merit.

Terms of the Scholarships
The Scholarships are offered for Six to twelve months, extendable upon recommendation of the host institution.
COMSTECH will bear international low-cost airfare.
The host institutions are expected to provide subsistence supervision, and mentor local trainings.
The aim is to build the scientific capacity of OIC Member Countries in various scientific fields of science, technology, & innovation (STI) through benefitting from the best of talent globally. To project soft image of Muslim world against islamophobia and show case best talent to create a positive global impact of OIC Member States.
Top distinguished scientists/ engineers are engaged to serve as experts/resource persons for inter-Islamic activities. The nominated eminent scholars shall be requested by COMSTECH to visit institutions in the OIC region to review their academic structure and suggest reforms, as well as conduct capacity building workshops, and training courses. The nominated scholar(s) shall be expected to make weeklong visits (biannually) to selected institutions in the OIC region. This initiative will allow scholars to showcase their prowess in the field internationally, and would allow other countries to learn from consummate trained eminent scientists and engineers.
