  • L’Ambassadeur du Yémen loue les services du COMSTECH aux États-membres de l’OCI

    H.E. Mr. Mohammed Motahar Al Ashabi, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen in Pakistan paid a visit to COMSTECH on December 18, 2020. He met with Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General, COMSTECH and discussed programmes and new initiatives of COMSTECH.

    The Coordinator General gave him a detailed briefing on COMSTECH achievements and current programmes and future plans. Prof. Iqbal also shared with him the contribution of COMSTECH programmes made to Yemen.

    Coordinator General informed him about the new initiative of COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence comprise of leading institutions of Pakistan and OIC countries and invited Yemeni students to benefit from the research excellence through visits.

    H.E. Mr. Mohammed Motahar Al Ashabi lauded COMSTECH efforts, its contribution to the OIC member states for scientific and technological uplift and appreciated the current programmes and the vision.

    The dignitaries also explored the avenues of bilateral joint initiatives for the development of socio-economic conditions in the OIC member states.

    During the meeting the Ambassador of Yemen presented the souvenir of honor to Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary and the Coordinator General COMSTECH presented the shield of memento to his excellency.

  • Le Partenariat COMSTECH et Al-Shifa Trust pour améliorer la recherche en ophtalmologie dans les États-membres de l’OCI

    A three-member delegation of Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital comprising upon Maj. Gen. Rehmat Khan (R), President, Al-Shifa Trust, Prof. Wajid Ali Khan, Dean, Al-Shifa Trust, Pakistan Institute of Ophthalmology and Brig (R) Rizwan Ullah Asghar, Executive Director, Al-Shifa Trust visited COMSTECH on December 2, 2020.

    Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General, COMSTECH arranged a cordial orientation visit for the delegation to COMSTECH facility and briefed on the scope, current activities and future programmes of COMSTECH.

    During the meeting both dignitaries agreed to partner to enhance research in the area of ophthalmology in OIC member states.

    Al-Shifa Trust offered 4-12 weeks observerships and 1-year clinical fellowships to candidates from OIC member states in cornea and refractive surgery, vitreoretinal diseases, glaucoma, orbit and oculoplastics and pediatric ophthalmology.

    Al-Shifa Trust extended help to fight preventable blindness in the OIC member states in collaboration with COMSTECH by sending a delegation of highly qualified and experienced surgeons to undertake surgical camp for cataract as well as perform advanced surgical procedures for diseases like cornea, glaucoma, orbits and oculoplastics, vitreo-retina, pediatric eye disorders and ocular oncology.

    Al-Shifa Trust in partnership with COMSTECH wish to invite research collaboration in the following domains from OIC member states:

    1. Ocular Epidemiological Studies
    2. Ocular Imaging
    3. Ocular Genetics
    4. Data Analytics
    5. Cytokines and Biomarkers for ocular pathologies
    6. Clinical Trials
    7. Clinical Studies
    8. Ocular Therapeutics

  • Coordinator General COMSTECH Visits National Incubation Center

    The Coordinator General COMSTECH, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary visited the National Incubation Center on the invitation of Mr. Parvez Abbasi, Project Director, National Incubation Center (NIC), Islamabad.

    Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary was briefed about the achievements and activities being carried out at NIC.

    Dr. Iqbal lauded NIC’s contribution to propel Pakistan towards a knowledge-based economy and briefed the Project Director about the role and activities of COMSTECH and proposed three joint activities:

    • COMSTECH – NIC joint program to organize programs across the OIC region in the realm of entrepreneurship.
    • A COMSTECH Network of NICs to conduct joint activities to promote small and medium scale businesses.
    • A COMSTECH – NIC initiative to devise business accelerator program to train the academic institutions inscribed in the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence.

    Both the dignitaries agreed to actively pursue the initiatives proposed by the Coordinator General COMSTECH.

  • Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General COMSTECH met with the honourable Lt. Gen. Naweed Zaman

    Rector of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan on 16th June 2020. The dignitaries discussed opportunities of mutual interest, and agreed to extend cooperation to build a strong collaboration mechanism to deal with emerging challenges of the post-COVID-19 world.

Ambassador Askar Mussinov, Assistant Secretary General (S&T), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on 16th June 2020. Mr. Irfan Shaukat, Director General (S&T), along with other officials of OIC General Secretariat and Mr. Aftab Zaidi, Director HR & Administration COMSTECH, also attended the meeting.
