1st OIC Robotics Challenge, Tashkent Uzbekistan
COMSTECH with the support of the Government of Uzbekistan, the OIC and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) organized the 1st OIC Robotics Challenge at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, between 28-31 October, 2019. The event organized in two categories, Robo Sumo and Robo Football, was a competition for self-designed and constructed robots for students aged 17-23 years from OIC member states. This event was announced in July 2019, and was enthusiastically participated in by 32 teams from 23 Member States. Each team was allowed up to 3 members, and a mentor. At least one team from each of the participating countries was provided travel fare from the organizers, while all the participants were graciously hosted by the Ministry of Innovative Development, Government of Uzbekistan. An 8-Member international jury, represented different regions of the OIC, judged the competition.

The event not only enabled the exchange of technical expertise in Robotics, but also accorded an opportunity for strengthening of professional ties between these youth, as well as between jury members. Finally, after intense competition in the two different categories, 6 team prizes (3 in each category) announced by the OIC were awarded by H.E. Mr. Ibrokhim Y. Abdurakhmonov, the Minister for Innovative Development, Government of Uzbekistan; Dr. Hasan Basri Arslan, representative of the SG OIC; and Dr. S. Khurshid Hasanain, Advisor COMSTECH.
