Training course on “Design of Science, Technology and Innovation Policies in OIC Member States” in Yazd, Iran February 22 to 26, 2015
COMSTECH, The OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, and Yazd University organized a one-week intensive training course on “Design of Science, Technology and Innovation Policies in OIC Member States” at Yazd University in Yazd, Iran from February 22 to 26, 2015. The training course was co-sponsored by COMSTECH, Yazd University and Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah. The training modules were designed and delivered by Prof. Tim Turpin (International Consultant and Professor at University of Western, Australia), Dr. S.T.K. Naim (Consultant COMSTECH, Pakistan) and Mr. Hae-Chan Park (Patent Attorney and founding partner of H.C. Park & Associates, a law firm in USA). Mr. Umar Sheraz (Senior Policy Analyst at COMSTECH) and Mr. Baseer Qazi (Assistant Professor at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Pakistan) also contributed lectures and conducted interactive exercises.
The major topics of the course were; (i) STI policy and processes, (ii) Economic development and IP protection, (iii) Commercialization of university research, (iv) R&D policies for developing countries, (v) Planning, partnerships and policy performance, (vi) Use of foresight for innovation policy, and (v) Measuring innovation and growth, using social network analysis.
Thirty two participants from eleven OIC member states attended the training course. The participating countries were; Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Mali, Morocco, Pakistan and Sudan. On the last day of the training course, participants presented their country reports.

One-day Training Workshop on “Commercialization of University Research and International Collaboration” in Isfahan, Iran
After the conclusion of the training course in Yazd, COMSTECH delegates were invited by the Isfahan Science and Technology Town (ISTT) to conduct one-day training workshop on “Commercialization of University Research and International Collaboration”. The ISTT is located in northwest of Isfahan. It is in close proximity to Isfahan University of Technology and to industrial and civil establishments and hosts over 370 firms. Faculty, Students and Entrepreneurs attended this workshop. The main focus was on the commercialization of research and the role of IPRs. International collaboration in research and the role of diaspora in building the knowledge networks and promotion of high-tech entrepreneurship was discussed. The workshop was conducted by Dr. S.T.K. Naim, Prof. Tim Turpin, Mr. Hae-Chan Park and Dr. Mostafa Karimian Eghbal.
