Dr. Bo Zhou, the Senior Agricultural Officer at Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations had a meeting at COMSTECH head office Islamabad with Dr. Khurshid Hasanain (Adviser COMSTECH), Dr. Shakeel Khan (Seed Sector Consultant, FAO), Dr. Sadar Uddin Siddiqui (Chief Scientific Officer, National Agricultural Research Centre), Ms. Hanifa Beg (Programme Manager COMSTECH), Ms. Khazima Muazim (Programme Manager COMSTECH) and Mr. Muhammad Waheed Anwar (Research Associate FAO). The prime agenda of the meeting was discussing progress of the multinational project on “Promotion of Plant Genetic Resources Use of Varietal Development and Integration in the Seed System” being jointly developed by COMSTECH, FAO, Pakistan Agricultural Research Council and Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The proposal aims to develop the capacities of participating member states, namely Azerbaijan, Iraq, Jordan, Oman and Pakistan for preservation, sharing and integrating seed varieties in their respective agricultural systems. The project is part of COMSTECH efforts to address the priority area of food security of the STI Agenda, 2026. Advisor COMSTECH briefed Dr.Zhou on the STI Agenda 2026 and shared with him the plans for its implementation.
