The World Health Organization is the United Nations specialized agency for health which has joined hands with COMSTECH to support health research in one of its seven regions. Eastern Mediterranean region known as EMRO comprises of the 21 countries which are also COMSTECH members.

These countries include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

The joint effort is aimed at promoting research, encourage networking, generate new knowledge and stimulate the application of biotechnology and genomics driven interventions in health care.
